(white) (Isa 33:9) - an elevated mountain chain in northern Palestine, on the border between Judea and Syria, extending eastward from Acre (Judg 3:3) to the entrance of Hamath (Amos 6:14). Its name probably comes from the snow that continually lies upon the summits. The range extends more than one hundred English miles and is about twenty miles wide; its highest peak rises about ten thousand feet above sea level. The Litani divides the chain into two parts.
