Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(comforter) (Acts 13:1) — foster-brother of Herod Antipas. In the early period of his ministry he was numbered among the prophets and teachers of the primitive church at Antioch, and took part in the fasting, prayer, and laying on of hands upon Saul and Barnabas when they were called by the Spirit of God to apostolic service. He is not mentioned again in Holy Scripture after this.
