(Acts 13:51) - the capital of ancient Lycaonia in Asia Minor, at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. In the Middle Ages (1096-1308) it was the capital of the Seljuk sultans. It is now called Konieh or Konia and has more than 30,000 inhabitants. It lies on the great road between Ephesus and the western shore of the peninsula. The apostles Paul and Barnabas once visited this city; here they preached the Gospel and suffered such persecution for their preaching that they were forced to leave it (Acts 14:1-6).
