Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(strong or firm place) (2 Kings 19:12; Isa. 37:12)—a city in Syria or northern Mesopotamia. The source identifies it with Resafa between Raqqa and Emesa, later called Sergiopolis and situated on the route toward Palmyra. Many interpreters cited by the source regarded it as the seat of an Assyrian governor and therefore as a city conquered by Assyria.
