(place of broom shrubs) (Num. 33:18–19)—one of Israel’s wilderness encampments on the road to Canaan. Its location was uncertain; the source notes Robinson’s proposal of Wadi Abu Retemat south of Kadesh, a place with shrubs and a spring of fresh water. The spies were sent from this region to examine the Promised Land, the rebellion associated with Kadesh occurred here, Miriam died nearby, and Moses sent messengers from the region to the king of Edom (Num. 13–14; 20).
