Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(armor; breastplate) (Deut. 3:9)—the Amorite name for Mount Hermon; the Phoenicians and Sidonians called it Sirion. The source reports that local people called it the Snowy Mountain, Jebel eth-Telj, and the Chief’s Mountain, Jebel esh-Sheikh. Ezekiel 27:5 names Senir as the place from which the people of Tyre obtained cypress wood for shipbuilding.
