Shunem
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Josh. 19:18)—a town assigned to Issachar. The Philistines encamped there before Saul’s final battle on Mount Gilboa (1 Sam. 28:4). Abishag, who attended the aged David, was a Shunammite (1 Kings 1:3, 15); and the faithful woman who received Elisha and whose son he restored to life lived there (2 Kings 4:8–37). The encyclopedia identifies it with the village then called Sulam or Solem, near the Valley of Jezreel.
