Son of God

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

—a title used in several senses in Scripture but belonging uniquely to Jesus Christ as the eternal Son, the second Person of the Holy Trinity, one in divine nature with the Father. At His baptism and Transfiguration the Father bears witness to the beloved Son; the apostles confess Him as the Son of the living God; and the New Testament distinguishes His eternal sonship from the grace by which believers become children of God. Psalm 2:7, “Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee,” is applied to Christ in the apostolic preaching (Acts 13:33; Heb. 1:5).
