Three Taverns

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Acts 28:15)—a stopping place on the Appian Way, roughly thirty-three Roman miles from Rome, probably named for roadside inns or shops serving travelers. Christians from Rome came as far as Three Taverns and the Forum of Appius to meet Paul while he was being escorted to the capital as a prisoner. Ancient writers also mention the station.
