Ellasar, Ellasarite

(Gen. 14:1, 9) — a city, or more probably a region, over which Arioch reigned. Some identify it with Larissa, a city on the left bank of the Euphrates in lower Babylonia, but it was more probably Larsa, or Larancha, now Senkereh, between Chaldean Ur and Erech. The cuneiform inscriptions found at Senkereh point to its remote antiquity, and even suggest that it existed before Babylon.
