Gopher wood
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(strong, resinous wood) (Gen. 6:14) — the wood from which Noah’s ark was built. This word occurs only in this citation. The majority of interpreters of Holy Scripture think that this was cypress or cedar wood. The Greek name “kyparissos” bears a resemblance to the Hebrew “gopher.” It was reckoned the hardest and most durable of woods, and among all woods was least subject to rot and worm.
