Sons of God
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Gen. 6:2)—the designation of the figures who took wives from the daughters of men before the Flood. The encyclopedia follows the traditional interpretation that they were the godly descendants of Seth, contrasted with Cain’s line. Ancient Jewish and Christian interpreters have also understood them as angelic beings or as powerful rulers. The Hebrew expression itself does not remove the ambiguity, which should therefore be acknowledged.
