(2 Kings 23:29-35 and others)—Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, a contemporary of Josiah, king of Judah, who defeated King Josiah at Megiddo and was afterward himself defeated by Nebuchadnezzar at Carchemish. This Egyptian king built up a considerable fleet, caused the Phoenicians to sail around Africa, and considerably extended the borders of his domains.
