Nebuzaradan

(2 Kings 25:8, Jer. 39:10)—captain of the bodyguard of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, who burned the temple of Jerusalem and the king’s palace, and led the inhabitants into captivity in the eleventh year of the reign of Zedekiah. He left in Jerusalem only the poor, who had nothing of their own, and led all the rest out of the city he had destroyed into the region of Babylon, abounding in fields and vineyards. By the command of Nebuchadnezzar, he took care for the protection of the prophet Jeremiah, who was in danger of perishing at the taking of the city (Jer. 39:11–14).
He was also charged with seeking out the chief instigators of the revolt against Nebuchadnezzar in the reign of Zedekiah, who are listed in the Second Book of Kings (25:18, 19) and in the Book of the prophet Jeremiah (52:24, 25), and with bringing them to Riblah, where Nebuchadnezzar was at that time. Nebuchadnezzar put them to death together with the sons of Zedekiah.
