Riblah

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

or Rivlah (fruitful) (Num. 34:11)—a city on Palestine’s northern frontier. Pharaoh Necho detained Jehoahaz king of Judah there and sent him in bonds to Egypt (2 Kings 23:33). Nebuchadnezzar brought Zedekiah there for judgment; Zedekiah’s sons were slain before him, his eyes were put out, and he was carried in chains to Babylon (2 Kings 25:6–7). The source identifies the place with modern Ribleh on the road between Baalbek and Homs near the Orontes.
