or Rabbah of the Ammonites (great) (2 Sam. 12:26; Deut. 3:11). It is first mentioned as the place where the iron bedstead of King Og was preserved. Rabbah was the chief city of the Ammonites, situated in the hills of Gilead. Uriah lost his life during Joab’s siege of the city (2 Sam. 11:17), and it was afterward taken under David’s own leadership (2 Sam. 12:29). In that account it is called “the royal city.”
