Salamis
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Acts 13:5)—an ancient city at the southeastern corner of Cyprus, later known as Constantia and associated by the source with Famagusta. Saul, Barnabas, and John preached the word of God there in the Jewish synagogues, and the city later became an episcopal see. It must not be confused with the island of Salamis near Greece, where Themistocles won his celebrated victory over the Persians.
