(warrior or prince of the LORD)—the name of several persons. (1) (2 Sam. 8:17) David’s scribe or secretary. (2) (2 Kings 25:18–21) the chief priest in Zedekiah’s days, carried away by Nebuzaradan and put to death at Riblah. (3) (Jer. 40:8) son of Tanhumeth, among those who came to Gedaliah in Judah after the exile. (4) (Neh. 7:7) a companion of Zerubbabel, also called Azariah. (5) (Ezra 7:1) the father or ancestor of Ezra the priest. (6) (Neh. 11:11; compare 1 Chron. 9:11) a Temple official in Nehemiah’s days, also called Azariah.

(7) (Neh. 12:1, 12) a priest and ancestor of Meraiah. (8) (Jer. 51:59–64) son of Neriah, quartermaster to Zedekiah, whom Jeremiah charged to read in Babylon the prophecies concerning that city’s downfall. (9) (1 Chron. 4:13–14) a son of Kenaz and father of Joab. (10) (1 Chron. 4:35) grandfather of Jehu of Simeon. (11) (Neh. 10:2) a priest in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah.
