Trophimus
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Acts 20:4)—an Ephesian Christian and companion of Paul. Jews in Jerusalem had seen him with Paul and falsely assumed that Paul had brought this Gentile into the Temple, helping provoke the disturbance that led to Paul’s arrest (Acts 21:27–29). Paul later wrote that he had left Trophimus sick at Miletus (2 Tim. 4:20). Traditions numbering him among the Seventy and describing his martyrdom are later than the New Testament.
